Sirti Digital Delivers €28M, 1.5MW Prefabricated Data Center in Five Weeks
Italian digital infrastructure provider Sirti Digital has completed the construction of a 1.5MW prefabricated data center in Rome in just five weeks, with a total investment of €28 million. The project underscores a growing industry shift toward modular, rapidly deployable data center solutions that can meet urgent capacity demands without compromising on resilience or compliance.
The facility, built in collaboration with a consortium of technology partners, is designed to be earthquake-proof, addressing a critical requirement for infrastructure in seismic-prone regions of Italy. According to Sirti Digital, the data center was assembled on-site using pre-engineered modules, drastically reducing construction time compared to traditional brick-and-mortar builds, which typically take months or even years. The company emphasized that the project was delivered on schedule and within budget, highlighting the efficiency of prefabricated architectures in today’s fast-paced digital economy.
The €28 million investment covers the entire lifecycle of the project, including design, manufacturing, logistics, installation, and commissioning. The data center’s 1.5MW IT load capacity is intended to support a range of enterprise and cloud workloads, with a focus on high availability and energy efficiency. Sirti Digital noted that the facility meets Tier III reliability standards, ensuring uptime and redundancy for critical applications.
Industry analysts view this project as a bellwether for broader adoption of prefabricated data centers across Europe, particularly in urban and constrained environments where speed and space are at a premium. The ability to deploy capacity in weeks rather than months also aligns with the rapid scaling needs of AI and edge computing, where latency and proximity to end users are increasingly vital. By proving that seismic resilience can be integrated into a modular design, Sirti Digital has potentially opened the door for similar deployments in other earthquake-prone markets, such as Greece, Turkey, and parts of the Balkans.
