Nvidia Taps Naver for Gigawatt-Scale AI Cloud Expansion in South Korea
Nvidia has partnered with South Korean internet giant Naver to deploy a gigawatt-scale artificial intelligence cloud infrastructure in South Korea, marking one of the largest AI computing projects in the Asia-Pacific region. The collaboration underscores the growing demand for massive-scale AI compute capacity outside traditional markets like the United States and China.
The partnership will see Nvidia supply its latest-generation GPUs and networking technology to power Naver’s AI cloud platform, which is designed to support both enterprise customers and Naver’s own AI services, including search, recommendation engines, and conversational AI. The project is expected to scale to multiple gigawatts of total power capacity over the coming years, positioning it among the world’s largest dedicated AI cloud deployments.
Naver, often described as “South Korea’s Google,” has been aggressively expanding its AI capabilities, investing heavily in data centers and cloud infrastructure. The company operates one of the country’s largest data center campuses in Chuncheon, and the new partnership with Nvidia will further accelerate its push into high-performance AI computing. “This is not just about building infrastructure; it is about creating an AI ecosystem that can compete on a global stage,” a Naver executive said in a statement.
The move comes as South Korea seeks to bolster its position in the global AI race, with the government offering incentives for domestic tech firms to develop sovereign AI capabilities. The gigawatt-scale cloud project is expected to attract significant interest from local enterprises and research institutions looking for access to cutting-edge AI hardware without relying on overseas providers.
Industry analysts note that the partnership highlights a broader trend of hyperscale AI infrastructure moving beyond the traditional cloud providers. “We are seeing a new wave of national and regional champions building their own AI clouds, and Nvidia is positioning itself as the essential technology partner for these efforts,” said a senior analyst at a Seoul-based technology research firm. The project is also expected to create thousands of jobs in South Korea’s tech sector and drive further investment in renewable energy to power the massive data centers.
