EdgeMode Signs MoU for €3 Billion, 300 MW Data Center Campus in Mora, Spain

EdgeMode has signed a memorandum of understanding with the City Council of Mora, Spain, to develop a 300 MW data center campus known as DC Malpica, backed by a €3 billion (US$3.4 billion) investment. The project, located in the Toledo province of Castile-La Mancha, marks a significant step in Spain’s rapid expansion of digital infrastructure, particularly as the country positions itself as a European hub for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.

The non-binding MoU, which runs for 24 months, establishes a framework for the development of the site. Under the agreement, the City of Mora will provide institutional support, coordinate administrative departments, and back the designation of the project as a Project of Strategic Interest. EdgeMode, in turn, aims to help Mora establish itself as a key hub for AI infrastructure in Spain. Financing and permitting for the facility are still to be secured.

Once operational, DC Malpica will support AI, high-performance computing, and cloud services. The campus will be powered by solid oxide fuel cell microgrid solutions, following a collaboration EdgeMode announced earlier this year with an unnamed provider. This energy solution is designed to span EdgeMode’s Spanish network, enabling scalable deployments as the company’s requirements grow, and accelerating the delivery of AI data center capacity.

“This agreement marks a critical milestone in the development of one of Europe’s prime locations for data center capacity, and our collaboration with the City of Mora,” said Charlie Faulkner, CEO of EdgeMode, in a press release. “By establishing this institutional framework, we can navigate the development process efficiently while ensuring that DC Malpica delivers lasting economic value, high-quality employment, and technological advancement to the local community without compromising on environmental standards.”

Emilio Bravo Peña, Mayor of Mora, added in a statement: “With this data center project we will be a leading town not just in Spain, but in Europe. Furthermore, I am sure that the magnet effect will work, and companies from other sectors, some of which are necessary for this project, will also come to Mora.”

DC Malpica will be located near Madrid, which, along with Barcelona, has become a major AI and digital infrastructure hub. EdgeMode aims to establish eight sites across Spain totaling over 4.35 GW of planned capacity and intends to open Tier-3-ready AI campuses in the country. According to data from Arizton Intelligence, the Spanish data center market was valued at US$3.3 billion in 2025 and is expected to grow to US$8.83 billion by 2031, as data centers expand beyond major cities. The MoU between EdgeMode and the City Council of Mora is expected to contribute to Spain’s growing demand for digital infrastructure.
