LG Electronics Unveils Advanced Cooling and Energy Solutions at Data Center World 2026

As the demand for artificial intelligence computing surges, placing unprecedented thermal and energy efficiency demands on data center infrastructure, LG Electronics is positioning itself as a comprehensive solution provider. The company's strategic push into the B2B sector hinges on addressing the critical cooling and power management challenges faced by modern AI data centers, a market segment experiencing rapid growth and technological evolution.

At the Data Center World 2026 exhibition in Washington, D.C., LG Electronics unveiled a suite of upgraded and newly developed HVAC and energy optimization solutions. The showcase highlights the company's commitment to providing end-to-end thermal management for high-density computing environments. A key introduction is an enhanced liquid-cooling system centered on a Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU) employing Direct-to-Chip Cooling. This method places a coolant-filled metal plate directly on high-performance chips for efficient heat extraction. LG applied a flow-optimized metal-plate structure and incorporated virtual sensor technology for system stability, even in the event of sensor failure. The company also integrated a high-efficiency inverter-driven pump, which adjusts coolant flow as needed. These improvements have resulted in a significant boost in cooling capacity, more than doubling it from a previous 650 kilowatts to 1.4 megawatts.

In a move to broaden its cooling portfolio, LG presented its first immersion-cooling solution, developed in partnership with U.S. specialist GRC and SK Enmove. This technology submerges servers directly in a non-conductive fluid. The collaboration yielded a complete immersion tank system from GRC and a specialized cooling fluid from SK Enmove. Alongside these liquid-based technologies, LG emphasized its continued competitiveness in air cooling, leveraging over a decade of experience supplying solutions to global data centers with a lineup ranging from water-cooled to air-cooled free cooling chillers.

The implications of LG's expanded portfolio are significant for the data center industry, which is under constant pressure to improve Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and manage escalating heat loads from AI hardware. By offering a spectrum from direct-to-chip and immersion cooling to advanced air handling, LG provides operators with scalable options to match specific density and efficiency requirements. Furthermore, the company is moving beyond hardware into integrated management and energy optimization. It introduced a Data Center Cooling Management system for remote monitoring and control of cooling assets, and an energy operations platform developed with clean-tech startup PADO. This platform uses real-time analytics to identify and redistribute wasted energy within a facility's cooling and power systems.

To address foundational energy losses, LG showcased a direct current grid solution developed with LG Energy Solution, LS ELECTRIC, and LS Cable & System. The solution minimizes the multiple power conversion steps typical in alternating current systems, thereby reducing energy loss. LG stated that while existing AC systems can lose around 25% of energy, its DC solution can lower initial power losses to approximately 15%, offering a path to greater operational sustainability for large-scale data center operations.
