AtlasEdge Acquires Land for Second Barcelona Data Center to Meet Surging Subsea Cable Demand
Pan-European data center provider AtlasEdge has secured land for the development of its second facility in Barcelona, signaling the city’s growing importance as a digital gateway between Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. The move comes as demand for regional connectivity surges, driven by new subsea cable projects that are transforming Barcelona into a critical interconnection hub.
The company announced it has acquired an 18,000-square-meter plot located just six kilometers from its existing Barcelona data center and close to the Barcelona Cable Landing Station. With initial power already secured, the new facility is expected to deliver 10 megawatts of capacity by 2027, with the potential to scale up to 24 megawatts. The site’s proximity to subsea cable infrastructure positions it to serve hyperscalers, cloud providers, and enterprises seeking low-latency connectivity across three continents.
Barcelona is rapidly emerging as a key growth market in the digital space, fueled by high customer demand and advances in subsea cable technology that have made the city a strategic point for data exchange. The development aligns with broader industry trends where secondary markets in Southern Europe are attracting investment due to their geographic advantages and growing digital economies.
AtlasEdge has been actively strengthening its executive team and expanding its portfolio. Over the past three months, the company appointed Tesh Durvasula as CEO and Robbie Mcghie as chief delivery officer, and entered the Portuguese market through the acquisition of two adjacent sites. The new Barcelona project reinforces its commitment to expanding capacity in high-demand European markets as the region’s digital infrastructure needs continue to accelerate.
