DigitalBridge and JEXI Launch Nippon Gateway Infrastructure, a New Enterprise Data Center Platform in Japan
DigitalBridge Group, Inc. (NYSE: DBRG), a leading global investor in digital infrastructure, and Japan Extensive Infrastructure Limited (JEXI) have announced the formation of Nippon Gateway Infrastructure (NGI), a new colocation data center platform dedicated to serving enterprise customers across Japan. The move comes as demand for secure and scalable digital infrastructure in the region continues to accelerate, driven by cloud adoption, data localization requirements, and digital transformation initiatives among Japanese businesses.
The platform launches with a foundational portfolio of data center assets acquired from NEC Corporation, including facilities in the Greater Tokyo and Greater Osaka regions. While NEC will remain a strategic customer of NGI, the new entity plans to aggressively expand its enterprise-focused platform through strategic acquisitions, expansion of existing facilities, and selective greenfield developments in key markets across Japan.
To lead this effort, NGI has assembled a highly experienced leadership team with deep roots in Japan’s technology, telecommunications, and digital infrastructure sectors. Hiroshi Ogasawara has been appointed President and CEO, bringing extensive experience from senior executive roles at SCSK Corporation, SCSK NEC Data Center Management, Ltd., and AT TOKYO Corporation. Masato Hoshino joins as Executive Vice President and COO, drawing on more than 20 years of leadership experience in the telecom and digital infrastructure space, including his previous role as Head of Asia at Colt Technology Services. In addition, Yoshiaki Fujimori, currently Chairman of Oracle Japan, has been appointed Chairman of NGI, contributing more than four decades of leadership experience and deep business relationships across the country.
“The formation of NGI reflects DigitalBridge’s strategy of creating and scaling digital infrastructure platforms alongside exceptional management teams and strategic partners,” said Justin Chang, Senior Managing Director and Head of Asia at DigitalBridge. “With a foundational portfolio of high-quality data center assets, a highly experienced management team led by Hiroshi Ogasawara and Masato Hoshino, and a pipeline of expansion opportunities, we believe NGI is well positioned to become a leading data center platform in Japan.”
Hiroshi Ogasawara, President and CEO of NGI, added that the platform aims to become a leading enterprise-focused colocation provider in Japan, supporting customers’ growing requirements for secure, reliable, and scalable digital infrastructure. The establishment of NGI underscores the increasing investor appetite for digital infrastructure in Asia, as well as the strategic importance of Japan as a key market for both domestic and global data center expansion.
