Hyperscale Data Expands Michigan Campus with 48.5-Acre Land Acquisition
Hyperscale Data has closed on the acquisition of 48.5 acres of forested land in Dowagiac, Michigan, significantly expanding the footprint of its existing data center campus. The deal, first agreed upon in March 2026, more than doubles the company’s total land holdings at the site to 83 acres, providing substantial room for future growth and infrastructure development.
The newly acquired parcel, currently undeveloped woodland, will be integrated into the existing campus to support expansion plans. Milton “Todd” Ault III, executive chairman of Hyperscale Data, emphasized the strategic value of the purchase. “We are thrilled to complete this acquisition and look forward to growing the Michigan Campus in an efficient and responsible manner,” he said. “The acquisition will provide us with the opportunity to solidify our Michigan Campus and provide a natural, long-term buffer between our operations and the surrounding area.”
Ault further linked the land deal to broader momentum at the site, noting that a recently signed master services agreement positions the company to build on years of progress. “This provides us the ability to build on the immense progress we have made over the years as we evaluate our overall expansion plans while we seek to maximize the service offerings available to potential customers at our Michigan Campus,” he added.
Earlier this month, Hyperscale Data announced it had secured a 20MW customer contract from an unnamed California-based neocloud for the Michigan site. The initial deployment is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the potential to scale up to 52MW of compute capacity. To support this, the company’s subsidiary, Alliance Cloud Services (ACS), is retrofitting 60,000 square feet (5,575 square meters) at the campus, a process estimated to cost between $100 million and $120 million. ACS is also actively procuring key electrical and infrastructure equipment for the data center campus.
The Michigan campus, located at 415 East Prairie Ronde Street, was originally acquired in May 2022. Spanning 617,000 square feet (57,320 square meters), the facility was built in 1972 as a manufacturing space. Since early 2025, Hyperscale Data has been repurposing the site for high-performance computing (HPC) and colocation services, and recently unveiled plans for a robotics lab on the premises. While the campus is currently used primarily for Bitcoin mining, the company has indicated it will reallocate power to AI compute as deployments come online, though it may continue certain mining operations.
Starting in July 2026, Hyperscale Data plans to publish monthly progress reports on the project, offering ongoing transparency into the campus transformation. The expansion underscores a broader industry trend of repurposing legacy industrial sites for AI and cloud infrastructure, as demand for compute capacity continues to surge across North America.
