MRCB Enters AI Data Centre Market with RM2.1 Billion Bukit Jalil Project
Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) has announced a strategic move into the digital infrastructure sector, unveiling plans to develop an AI-ready data centre in Bukit Jalil. The project, valued at an estimated gross development cost of RM2.1 billion, marks the company's first foray into the rapidly growing high-performance computing and AI ecosystem.
The development will be carried out through a collaboration between Bukit Jalil Sentral Property Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MRCB Land Sdn Bhd, and Perintis Akal Sdn Bhd. Bukit Jalil Sentral, which owns the 37,320-square-metre leasehold project land, will act as the asset owner and master developer, while Perintis Akal—a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pemandu Partners International PLT—will serve as the long-term tenant and operator under a proposed 10-year lease agreement.
The facility is designed to support next-generation artificial intelligence workloads, featuring a total build-up area of approximately 500,000 square feet and a capacity of 65 MW IT load. Built to meet strict Uptime Institute Tier III requirements, the data centre will include high-density power and cooling infrastructure specifically engineered to handle advanced GPU-based workloads and modern AI accelerator platforms.
To ensure world-class execution, Perintis Akal has partnered with Inspur Communication Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Chinese cloud computing and big data services provider Inspur Group, for the construction, commissioning, maintenance, and operation of the facility.
Datuk Imran Salim, MRCB group managing director, said the collaboration represents a major milestone for the group, positioning it at the forefront of the expanding high-performance computing and AI ecosystem. "Beyond establishing a footprint in a high-growth sector, the project will ensure a steady stream of long-term recurring income via a 10-year lease structure, significantly enhancing the asset value of our land in Bukit Jalil," he added. Imran also noted that MRCB has already received multiple expressions of interest to offtake the 65 MW of IT load capacity, indicating further data centre development opportunities on the remainder of its Bukit Jalil land bank are a strong possibility.
The parties expect to finalise and execute definitive agreements by the third quarter of 2026, with the entire facility targeted for completion by the fourth quarter of 2027. The move underscores MRCB's ambition to diversify into high-growth digital infrastructure, capitalising on surging demand for AI-ready data centre capacity in Southeast Asia.
