Hyperco Files for Second Data Center in Kouvola, Finland, Expanding Campus to 100MW

Nordic data center developer Hyperco is advancing its footprint in Finland with plans for a second facility in the city of Kouvola, marking a significant expansion of its existing campus in the region. The move underscores the growing demand for digital infrastructure in the Nordics, a region increasingly favored for its abundant renewable energy and cool climate.

According to local media outlets Yle and Kouvolan Sanomat, Hyperco has submitted a permit application earlier this month to build a two-story data center in the Koria district of Kouvola. The proposed facility is designed to deliver up to 100MW of capacity across 56,670 square meters (approximately 609,990 square feet). The Kouvola Technical Committee is scheduled to review the application on Tuesday, June 16.

Hyperco has requested permission to begin foundation work before the building permit officially takes effect, citing the need to complete the work before the ground freezes during the winter. The company is already constructing its first data center in Koria, a single-story building that began development last year and is expected to be completed by May 2027. That initial facility, developed in partnership with DayOne, is set to serve TikTok.

The second data center would be located on an adjacent plot, effectively creating a multi-building campus in the area. Kouvola, situated approximately 135 kilometers (83 miles) northeast of Helsinki, serves as the administrative capital of the Kymenlaakso region.

Founded in 2020, Hyperco was acquired by Edgnex, the data center arm of Dubai-based real estate giant Damac, in April 2025. The company has been steadily expanding its portfolio across Finland. In 2022, it acquired its first data center from Finnish family office TS-Yhtymä for over €35 million ($36.4 million). That 16,900-square-meter (181,900-square-foot) property in Vantaa housed two long-term tenants: Equinix and Thales.

Beyond Kouvola, Hyperco has projects under development in Espoo, Pyhäjoki, and Lohja, and is also linked to another potential site in the Voikkaa industrial area in Kouvola. This latest filing signals the company's ambition to scale rapidly in the Nordic market, capitalizing on the region's strategic advantages for energy-intensive data center operations.
