Telconet to Launch Three New Data Centers in 2026 and Develop 100MW AI Facility in the Andean Region

Telconet, a leading Latin American digital infrastructure provider, is accelerating its regional expansion with plans to bring three new data centers online across Ecuador, Panama, and Colombia by the end of 2026, as part of a broader strategy to meet surging demand for cloud services, connectivity, and artificial intelligence workloads.

The company recently inaugurated its third facility in Ecuador, marking a milestone in its growing portfolio. According to Francisco Villacreses, commercial vice president of Telconet Latam, a fourth data center in Ecuador will go live in the third quarter of 2026, followed by facilities in Panama and Barranquilla, Colombia, during the fourth quarter. "We have two facilities in Ecuador, built and in operation since 2012 and 2013 respectively. In 2026, we will inaugurate the third; in September, the fourth in Ecuador; and the fifth (Panama) and the sixth (Barranquilla) will be completed by the fourth quarter of 2026," Villacreses told BNamericas.

These new centers are part of a previously announced plan to develop eight edge data centers linked to the company’s submarine cable landing stations. The seventh facility, located in Bonita Springs, United States, is slated for the second quarter of 2027, while the eighth, to be built in Quito, will begin operations in the third quarter of 2028. Villacreses highlighted that the Quito facility, exclusively dedicated to AI, will start with 10 megawatts of capacity and is projected to scale up to 100 megawatts, positioning it as potentially the largest AI-focused data center in the Andean region.

Telconet has committed a US$550 million investment through 2027 to strengthen its digital infrastructure across Latin America. This capital deployment includes expanding its regional edge data center platform and enhancing international connectivity through new submarine cable capacity. The company aims to establish itself as a regional provider of digital infrastructure capable of supporting the exponential growth of cloud services, data processing, and AI applications.

In parallel, Telconet is advancing its submarine cable network. The Carnival Submarine Network-1 (CSN-1) system, a 4,500-kilometer cable built by Alcatel Submarine Networks, will connect Florida’s west coast with Panama, Colombia, and Ecuador. The cable landed in Colombia in October 2025 and later in Anconcito, Ecuador, in February 2026. The company also reported completing the final splice of the Pacific segment of CSN-1, a key technical step for ensuring continuous long-distance data transmission. The installation vessel is now in the Caribbean to deploy the final section of the system, with commissioning scheduled for the second half of 2026.

Telconet is also driving the CSN-2 project, a new submarine cable designed to meet the needs of AI and hyperscale operators. This system will connect Veracruz, Mexico, with the Apalachee Beach area in northern Florida, and include a branch to Galveston, Texas, providing access to the Houston market. The company is evaluating an additional connection to Bonita Beach to interconnect with CSN-1. As part of this initiative, Mexican firm C3ntro Telecom has joined the project and agreed to build a new terrestrial fiber-optic segment between Querétaro and Veracruz, linking CSN-2 with C3ntro’s Tikva network. This infrastructure aims to connect one of Mexico’s main data center hubs with the new submarine route.

Additionally, Telconet is participating in a consortium with local provider SALT Wireless and Cayman Cable Co. in a bidding process by the government of the Cayman Islands to develop a new international subsea cable. This project seeks to strengthen connectivity for the territory, which is currently served by the CJFS and Maya-1 systems operated by Liberty Networks since the late 1990s.

The rapid expansion of Telconet’s data center and submarine cable portfolio underscores the growing strategic importance of Latin America as a hub for digital infrastructure investment, driven by rising demand for AI processing power and cloud connectivity across the region.
