Malaysian Developer and Chinese Tech Firm to Build $253M AI Digital Park in Perak

A Malaysian data center developer and a Chinese technology company have joined forces to build a large-scale digital park in the state of Perak, marking another significant investment in Southeast Asia’s rapidly expanding digital infrastructure market. The project, named the NexQuantum AI Digital Park, is being developed through a joint venture called NexQuantum 1 and carries an estimated value of approximately RM1 billion, equivalent to $253 million.

The flagship component of the park will be a 32MW data center named NQ1, which is expected to serve as the anchor facility for the broader development. According to a report by the New Straits Times, an additional seven data centers have been proposed within the park, though details regarding their individual size, capacity, or completion timelines have not been disclosed. The exact location of the digital park within Perak, a state located in northwestern peninsular Malaysia, also remains unspecified.

The partnership brings together Cahya Suria Services, a Malaysian firm that describes itself as specializing in “developing high-performance data center infrastructure,” and Suzhou EnnoThing Technology, a Chinese tech company. It remains unclear whether Cahya Suria Services has previously developed data centers. Prior to 2021, the company operated under the name Renosun International and focused on providing solar panel systems, suggesting a recent strategic pivot into the data center sector.

The project underscores a broader trend of increasing investment in digital infrastructure across Southeast Asia, as global demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data processing capacity continues to surge. While the lack of detailed specifications and timelines leaves some questions unanswered, the scale of the investment signals confidence in the region’s long-term growth potential and the strategic importance of Perak as an emerging hub for data center development.
