AirTrunk and ib vogt Sign Malaysia’s First Renewable VPPA for Data Center

Asia Pacific data center platform AirTrunk has entered a long-term Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with renewable energy developer ib vogt, marking the first such deal for a data center under Malaysia’s Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP). The agreement supports AirTrunk’s growing operations in the country while advancing Malaysia’s transition to a lower-carbon economy.

Under the deal, a 29.99 MWac solar facility developed by ib vogt has commenced commercial operations. The project is now generating and delivering clean energy into Malaysia’s national grid, directly contributing to the country’s renewable energy targets under the CGPP. The initiative reflects a broader industry trend where hyperscale data center operators are increasingly turning to long-term renewable energy procurement to meet sustainability goals.

David Ludwig, CEO of ib vogt APAC, said: “At ib vogt, our purpose is to change the world by making decarbonisation a reality for our partners. We are proud to have delivered this project safely and responsibly.” Damien Spillane, Chief Customer & Innovation Officer of AirTrunk, added: “This long-term collaboration contributes new renewable energy capacity to Malaysia’s grid while supporting AirTrunk’s commitment to match 100 per cent of electricity consumption across our data centre platform with renewable energy by 2030.”

ib vogt Malaysia serves as a key hub within the company’s Asia-Pacific portfolio. Notable projects include the 116 MWp Coara Marang Solar Plant in Terengganu, one of the largest and most advanced solar facilities in the country, as well as two 40 MWp CGPP projects in Kedah. The VPPA with AirTrunk further strengthens ib vogt’s position as a leading renewable energy partner for the data center industry in the region.

The deal also underscores the growing importance of corporate renewable procurement in Southeast Asia, where data center expansion is accelerating. By securing a dedicated solar VPPA, AirTrunk not only hedges against energy price volatility but also aligns with global investor and customer expectations for sustainable infrastructure.
