Vertiv Opens First Southeast Asia Factory in Malaysia to Support AI Data Center Boom
Vertiv Holdings Co., a leading U.S. manufacturer of data center equipment, has opened a new manufacturing facility in Johor, Malaysia, marking its first production site in Southeast Asia. The move underscores the accelerating pace of artificial intelligence infrastructure investment across the Asia-Pacific region, where demand for power and cooling systems is surging.
Located directly north of Singapore, the factory will produce critical power distribution units and liquid-cooling systems required to keep data centers operational across Southeast Asia, North Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. According to a statement from the Westerville, Ohio-based company, the plant is expected to be fully operational by 2027.
“Asia continues to be one of the fastest-growing regions for AI and digital infrastructure investment,” said Vertiv CEO Giordano Albertazzi. “Expanding our manufacturing footprint in Malaysia aims to further enhance our ability to support customers with quality, speed, scale and resilience.”
The expansion comes as global technology giants including Amazon.com Inc., Alphabet Inc., Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., and Tencent Holdings Ltd. collectively spend billions of dollars to scale their computing capacity in Asia. AI clusters require significantly more electricity and advanced thermal management than traditional data centers, driving demand for manufacturers capable of meeting higher power density and complex cooling requirements.
Vertiv’s new facility positions the company to serve this rapidly growing market, addressing the critical need for reliable infrastructure components that underpin the region’s digital transformation and AI deployment ambitions.
