Ada Begins Construction of 300MW Data Center in São Paulo After Three-Year Delay
After a three-year planning and permitting phase, digital infrastructure firm Ada has officially broken ground on a massive 300-megawatt data center campus in São Paulo, Brazil. The project marks a significant step in expanding Latin America’s cloud and AI-ready infrastructure capacity, as demand for high-density computing continues to surge across the region.
The facility, located in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, is designed to support hyperscale cloud providers and enterprises requiring large-scale computational power. Ada’s decision to proceed with construction comes amid a broader push by global tech firms to establish a stronger foothold in Latin America, where data sovereignty regulations and growing digital economies are driving investment in local data center capacity.
According to company statements, the campus will be built in multiple phases, with the initial phase expected to deliver 100MW of IT load by early 2028. The full 300MW buildout will include advanced cooling systems, redundant power infrastructure, and connectivity to major fiber backbones serving the region. Ada has not disclosed the total investment value, but industry analysts estimate the project could exceed $1.5 billion over its construction timeline.
The São Paulo campus is part of Ada’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in key Latin American markets. The company previously noted that Brazil’s robust renewable energy grid and favorable business environment for digital infrastructure were critical factors in site selection. “São Paulo is the digital heart of Latin America, and this facility will anchor our ability to serve customers with latency-sensitive and high-availability workloads,” a company spokesperson said.
The project also underscores the growing importance of Latin America in the global data center supply chain. With North American and European markets approaching capacity constraints, operators like Ada are increasingly turning to emerging markets to meet demand. The São Paulo facility is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs and dozens of permanent operational roles, while also supporting local cloud ecosystem development.
