LG CNS and Doosan Join Forces in AI, Robotics, and Data Center Push
South Korean technology giants LG CNS and Doosan have agreed to a broad strategic partnership spanning artificial intelligence, robotics, data centers, and cloud computing, marking a significant step in their efforts to strengthen competitiveness in emerging digital industries. The collaboration reflects a growing trend among industrial conglomerates to combine expertise in advanced manufacturing, energy, and digital transformation to build next-generation business models.
LG CNS announced on June 19 that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Doosan to cooperate in areas including AI transformation (AX), robot transformation (RX), cloud services, data centers, and new business ventures. The signing ceremony took place on June 18 at LG CNS headquarters in Magok, Seoul, and was attended by senior executives from both companies, including Hyun Shin-gyoon, president and CEO of LG CNS, and Yoo Seung-woo, president of Doosan Corporation.
Under the agreement, the two companies plan to establish a joint business cooperation organization within one month of the signing and develop detailed operational plans to combine their respective core capabilities. In the AX area, they will strengthen Doosan's agentic AI capabilities and develop business roadmaps based on AgenticWorks, LG CNS's enterprise agentic AI platform. Cooperation in the RX sector is also under review. The companies will also seek synergies in data center and cloud businesses, with LG CNS planning to leverage its cloud and data center expertise to enhance Doosan's IT infrastructure, while the two sides will explore the adoption of hydrogen fuel cells in LG CNS data center projects.
Additionally, the partners aim to advance manufacturing AX initiatives by applying digital twin technologies to maximize efficiency throughout the lifecycle of manufacturing equipment. They also plan to collaborate on logistics businesses utilizing eco-friendly mobility solutions. Yoo Seung-woo, president of Doosan Corporation, said, "By combining Doosan's advanced technological capabilities in advanced materials and energy with LG CNS's AX expertise, we will build next-generation business models capable of leading global markets. Through this partnership spanning data centers, robotics and AI, we will maximize the future value of both companies." Hyun Shin-gyoon, president and CEO of LG CNS, added, "We will create synergy by combining LG CNS's differentiated AX and RX capabilities with the technological strengths of Doosan, a powerful partner. From AI-based predictive maintenance in manufacturing facilities to industrial innovation driven by robotics, we will quickly deliver tangible business outcomes from this collaboration."
The partnership is expected to have broad implications for South Korea's digital infrastructure and industrial automation sectors. By integrating Doosan's strengths in advanced materials and energy with LG CNS's expertise in AI and cloud, the two companies are positioning themselves to compete more aggressively in global markets for data center solutions, robotics, and enterprise AI platforms. The move also highlights the increasing importance of hydrogen fuel cells as a clean energy source for powering data centers, a trend gaining traction as operators seek to reduce carbon footprints.
