Amazon Invests $10 Billion in Missouri for New Data Center Campus
Amazon announced plans to invest $10 billion in Montgomery County, Missouri, to build a new state-of-the-art data center campus, marking one of the largest infrastructure investments in the state’s history. The project is expected to create more than 400 full-time data center jobs and thousands of construction jobs, while generating hundreds of millions of dollars in new property tax revenue over the next 25 years, according to local estimates.
Announced during a press conference with community and economic development partners, the investment underscores Amazon’s deepening commitment to Missouri, where it already employs over 10,000 people across fulfillment centers, delivery stations, and Whole Foods Market locations. The new campus will significantly expand the company’s digital infrastructure footprint in the region, supporting the growing demand for cloud computing and AI services.
“Today’s announcement represents more than a major investment in Missouri’s future—it represents new opportunities for Montgomery County and the surrounding region,” said Governor Mike Kehoe. He emphasized that projects like this create lasting benefits by supporting critical infrastructure improvements, generating tax revenue for schools and public services, and strengthening the foundation for future economic growth. “Amazon’s continued investment into our state demonstrates confidence in Missouri’s workforce, business climate, and communities,” he added.
David Zapolsky, Amazon’s Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer, noted that the company has been present in Missouri since 2017. “Today’s announcement reflects what we’ve learned over those years: that when you show up as a real partner, listen to the community, and invest for the long term, everyone benefits,” he said. He highlighted that the data centers will create hundreds of new jobs and strengthen local infrastructure, including $3 million to support emergency dispatch services and more than $1 million for a new community gathering space at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.
In addition to the $10 billion capital investment, Amazon is committing over $7 million in community contributions. This includes $3 million for emergency dispatch services in Montgomery County, over $1 million for a fairgrounds gathering space, and an additional $3 million in community programs. As part of these efforts, Amazon is launching a $150,000 Community Fund to provide grants for local projects.
The development is expected to generate significant economic activity through construction, infrastructure investment, and long-term operational growth. For Missouri, the project signals a major boost to the state’s position as a hub for technology and data center development, aligning with broader industry trends where hyperscale cloud providers are rapidly expanding capacity across the U.S.
