Meta Signs 298MW Texas Solar PPA with RWE to Power Data Center Growth
Meta has signed a corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with renewable energy developer RWE to offtake power from the under-development 298MW Rabbit’s Foot Solar project in northeast Texas. The agreement marks the fourth PPA between the two companies, underscoring a deepening partnership as Meta scales its data center operations and clean energy commitments.
The Rabbit’s Foot Solar project is located in Bowie County, Texas, where construction commenced earlier this year. Commissioning is expected by the end of 2027. According to Meta, the capacity generated by the project will support its goal of matching its operations with 100 percent clean energy, a critical target as the company expands its data center footprint across the state.
“Our partnership with Meta continues to grow as we work together to deliver reliable power that supports their energy commitments. This agreement for the Rabbit’s Foot Solar project demonstrates how collaboration can drive meaningful economic growth and community benefits,” said Ingmar Ritzenhofen, chief commercial officer of RWE Americas. He added that the project is expected to create approximately 200 local construction jobs and generate substantial long-term tax revenue to support schools, technical education programs, emergency services, and critical road maintenance and infrastructure improvements across the community.
Amanda Yang, head of Clean and Renewable Energy at Meta, said the project will bring new generation to the Texas grid while creating local jobs and delivering lasting economic benefits to Bowie County. “We’re proud to deepen our collaboration with RWE with our expanded portfolio,” she added.
The PPA is the latest in a series of agreements between Meta and RWE. Last March, the firms inked a 200MW solar PPA for power from a project in Bastrop County, Texas. In August 2024, the companies signed two PPAs totaling 374MW from projects in Illinois and Louisiana. The partnership dates back to May 2021, when they signed a 150MW solar PPA in Tennessee.
Meta currently operates data center campuses in Fort Worth and Temple, Texas, and is developing a third facility in El Paso, slated to begin operations sometime in 2028. The Rabbit’s Foot Solar project is expected to play a key role in powering this growing infrastructure, reinforcing the importance of renewable energy procurement in meeting the surging electricity demand from hyperscale data centers.
