New Lingang Area of China (Shanghai) will build an offshore data center

On the 27th October, the revised "Shanghai Data Regulations (Draft)" was submitted to the Standing Committee of the Municipal People's Congress for deliberation. This legislation specifically sets up a special chapter on "Pudong New Area Data Reform", which proposes that Shanghai will establish a data exchange in Pudong New Area in accordance with national requirements and carry out substantive operations. At the same time, it supports New Lingang Area of China (Shanghai) to build an international data port and build an offshore data center.

According to the "2020-2021 Shanghai and Surrounding Area IDC Market Research Report" released by KZ Consulting, the IDC business market in Shanghai in 2020 has reached 14.03 billion yuan. Due to the tightening of Shanghai’s relevant policies and the impact of the epidemic, the number of new data centers in Shanghai is limited, coupled with the mismatch of supply and demand, etc. At present, the supply of high-quality data centers in Shanghai is limited, and the New Lingang Area of China (Shanghai) will become a new spot.
