Nvidia Commits Up to $2.1 Billion in Iren to Deploy 5GW of DSX-Aligned AI Infrastructure

Nvidia has announced a major strategic investment in neocloud provider Iren, committing up to $2.1 billion to accelerate the deployment of AI infrastructure aligned with its Data Center Supercomputing (DSX) architecture. The deal underscores Nvidia’s deepening push to shape the physical infrastructure powering the next generation of AI workloads, moving beyond chip sales into direct partnerships with data center operators.

Under the agreement, Nvidia has secured a five-year right to purchase up to 30 million shares of Iren at $70 per share, representing a total potential investment of $2.1 billion. With this funding, Iren plans to deploy up to five gigawatts of Nvidia-aligned AI compute capacity across its global data center pipeline over time. The DSX architecture, Nvidia’s reference design, provides a blueprint for building data centers that support the company’s latest CPU-GPU racks and Spectrum-X Ethernet networking and storage systems.

Iren this week announced the successful energization of its 1.4GW Sweetwater 1 data center site in Texas, with an additional 600MW underway at the nearby Sweetwater 2 facility. Nvidia said the two sites are expected to serve as a flagship deployment for its DSX architecture. Separately, Iren also announced it is set to acquire cloud infrastructure software provider Mirantis in a deal valued at $625 million, further strengthening its software and operations capabilities.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, stating: “AI factories are becoming foundational infrastructure for the global economy. Deploying these systems at scale requires deep integration across the full stack — compute, networking, software, power, and operations. IREN brings the scale and infrastructure expertise to help accelerate the buildout of next-generation AI infrastructure globally. Together, we are building for the age of AI.”

Daniel Roberts, cofounder and co-CEO of Iren, added: “This partnership combines Nvidia’s AI systems and architecture leadership with Iren’s expertise across power, land, data centers, GPU deployment, and infrastructure operations. Together, we believe we can accelerate deployment of AI infrastructure and expand access to compute for AI-native and enterprise customers globally.”

The investment is part of Nvidia’s broader strategy to fund companies that buy and deploy its hardware. The chipmaker has previously invested in firms such as Nebius, Nscale, CoreWeave, Firmus, and Lambda. This week, Nvidia also invested in Corning to increase production of fiber optic cables, signaling its commitment to building out the entire supply chain for AI data centers. The deal with Iren highlights the growing importance of neocloud providers — specialized cloud operators focused on GPU-intensive workloads — as demand for AI compute capacity continues to surge worldwide.
