Nscale Hires Oracle’s Sam Huckaby to Lead AI Infrastructure Expansion Across Europe and North America
AI cloud provider Nscale has appointed Sam Huckaby, a former senior vice president of data center infrastructure at Oracle, as its president of data centers. The move signals the company’s aggressive push to scale its AI-ready compute infrastructure across both Europe and North America.
Huckaby will oversee Nscale’s data center building, operations, and capital deployment as the company ramps up development of multiple large-scale sites. His hire comes at a time when demand for AI infrastructure is surging, with hyperscale cloud providers and neoclouds racing to secure power and land for new data center campuses.
Before joining Nscale, Huckaby spent nearly seven years at Vantage Data Centers, where he served as chief development officer for EMEA. His career includes building and leading teams responsible for hyperscale data center campus development, according to Nscale’s announcement.
In a LinkedIn post, Huckaby said: “After my time at Oracle leading large-scale infrastructure, I’ve made the move to one of the most innovative companies in AI infra right now. Two weeks in, I’m more convinced than ever that this was the right call. And the opportunity is real: Nscale is building the compute infrastructure that AI development depends on, at serious scale.”
He added: “I joined Nscale because I believe AI infrastructure is one of the most consequential drivers in technology right now, and Nscale is playing to win. But what’s reinforced that most these past two weeks isn’t just the sites — it’s the people. From London to Norway to Texas, I’ve met a team that is deeply skilled and genuinely invested in what we’re building together. And we’re growing fast and looking for great people to join us.”
Nscale is currently developing several data center locations across Europe, including sites in Finland and Norway. Through a joint venture with Aker, the company has acquired land in multiple Norwegian locations such as Fauske and Skien. It is planning a 250MW facility in Narvik and a 230MW data center in Kvandal, and already operates an existing site in Glomfjord, Norway.
In the United States, Nscale is advancing its Monarch Compute Campus in West Virginia, a massive project with a planned capacity of 8GW. The company purchased the site in March 2026. Huckaby’s leadership will be central to executing these ambitious builds and ensuring capital efficiency across the portfolio.
Industry analysts view the hire as a strategic win for Nscale, as the neocloud sector competes with established hyperscalers for both talent and infrastructure resources. Huckaby’s experience at Oracle and Vantage positions him to navigate the complex challenges of land acquisition, power procurement, and construction timelines that define the current AI infrastructure boom.
