Stonepeak-Backed Digital Edge Said to Explore Sale or Investment of Up to $10 Billion
Asia-Pacific data center operator Digital Edge, owned by U.S. private equity firm Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners, is reportedly exploring strategic options that could include a partial or full sale, according to sources familiar with the matter. The development signals a potential major shift in ownership for one of the region’s fastest-growing data center platforms, which has rapidly scaled its footprint across key Asian markets since its inception.
Bloomberg reported that Digital Edge is working with JPMorgan Chase & Co. to review alternatives, with any potential deal valuing the company at up to $10 billion. The Singapore-based operator has been weighing its options amid a surge in demand for digital infrastructure across the Asia-Pacific region, driven by hyperscale cloud providers and increasing enterprise digitization. However, the company has not made a final decision and could ultimately opt against pursuing a transaction.
When contacted by Bloomberg, a representative for Digital Edge declined to comment on the review but stated that the company’s “focus remains on operating the business, executing strategy, and continuing to deliver for customers across all markets.” Stonepeak and JPMorgan both declined to comment on the matter.
Founded by Stonepeak in August 2020, Digital Edge has grown aggressively through a series of acquisitions and greenfield developments. The company currently operates or has under construction approximately 25 data centers, with over 1.1 gigawatts of secured IT power capacity across seven countries: Japan, South Korea, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines. Its strategy has involved acquiring smaller regional operators to establish a local foothold before building larger facilities tailored to hyperscale tenants. The potential sale or new investment round highlights the growing investor appetite for data center assets in Asia, where demand for cloud and AI workloads continues to push capacity needs to new heights.
