ST Telemedia Philippines Secures 40MW Renewable Energy Deal with MPower for Data Center Operations

April 21, 2026

In a significant move for the Philippines' digital infrastructure sector, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) Philippines has entered a major renewable energy supply agreement with MPower, a unit of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco). The deal underscores the critical role of sustainable power in supporting the country's expanding data center ecosystem, which forms the backbone of its accelerating digital economy.

The agreement will see MPower supply up to 40 megawatts of renewable energy to power three of STT GDC Philippines' facilities: STT Fairview and STT Cavite 1 and 2. Structured across six separate contracts, the partnership is designed to enhance the operational reliability and efficiency of these critical data centers. STT GDC Philippines, a joint venture formed in 2022 between Globe Telecom, Ayala Corporation, and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, currently operates five facilities with over 22MW of capacity nationwide and is developing the large-scale Fairview campus in Manila, projected to reach 124MW.

Carlo Malana, President and CEO of STT GDC Philippines, emphasized the strategic importance of the deal, stating: "As the Philippines rapidly accelerates its digital transformation, data centers are becoming a critical foundation of the country’s digital economy. From cloud computing and artificial intelligence to digital banking and e-commerce, these technologies rely on secure and reliable infrastructure powered by energy. Partnerships like this demonstrate how collaboration between world-class digital infrastructure providers and trusted energy partners can help enable the next phase of the Philippines’ digital growth."

Redel M. Domingo, Meralco Senior Vice President and Head of MPower, echoed this sentiment, adding: "Great partnerships are built on trust, a shared vision, and a commitment to move forward together. Through this agreement, we reaffirm MPower’s commitment to delivering reliable, flexible, and competitive energy solutions that empower our partners to grow and succeed." MPower is Meralco's retail electricity supply arm, primarily serving large-scale consumers in the Manila region.

The agreement signals a growing trend in Southeast Asia's data center market, where operators are increasingly seeking long-term, sustainable power solutions to meet rising demand and corporate environmental goals. By securing a substantial 40MW of renewable energy for its expanding portfolio, which includes the recently topped-out first 12MW building at the Fairview campus, STT GDC Philippines positions itself competitively to support next-generation technologies while addressing the industry's pressing sustainability challenges.
