Carrier Connect Expands US Footprint with Planned Acquisition of Rochester Colo
April 22, 2026
In a strategic move to solidify its presence in the lucrative North American market, Canadian data center operator Carrier Connect has announced its intent to acquire the principal operating assets of Rochester Colo, a data center firm based in Rochester, New York. The transaction underscores the ongoing consolidation within the colocation sector as operators seek strategic assets to fuel growth.
The companies have signed a non-binding letter of intent, with a definitive agreement targeted for finalization by June 15. While financial terms were not disclosed, the deal is expected to be structured through a combination of cash and Carrier Connect shares. This acquisition would provide Carrier Connect with what its CEO, Mark Binns, described as an "immediate operating foothold in the US." Binns emphasized the enduring importance of physical infrastructure, stating, "No matter how digital the world becomes, infrastructure still matters - location, reliability, and trusted customer relationships matter." He further noted that Rochester Colo represents a "meaningful entry point into the US market through an operating asset with real customers, real capacity, and a strong regional position," potentially accelerating the company's broader North American growth strategy.
The target facility, located at 1100 Pittsford Victor Rd in Rochester, currently offers 7,000 square feet of white space with 1MW of live IT capacity. The site has significant expansion potential, with plans to scale to 15,000 square feet and 4MW of capacity. The 36,000-square-foot property, historically known as the Voplex building, was converted into a data center in 2008 by Jim Salviski, founder of LogicalSolutions and current CEO of Rochester Colo. After several ownership changes, Salviski repurchased the site last year and relaunched it as Rochester Colo. Salviski expressed confidence in the deal, saying, "This LOI reflects a shared vision for scaling high-quality data center services in the Rochester market and beyond. We believe Carrier Connect brings the public-market platform, growth capital, and strategic ambition to build on the foundation we have created."
For Carrier Connect, founded in 2019, this marks its latest step in an aggressive acquisition strategy aimed at rolling up Tier II/III data centers internationally. The company recently expanded its Canadian portfolio by acquiring Ottawa-based PureColo and the data center business assets of Carbon60 in New Brunswick. Its international foray includes a 2MW facility in Perth, Australia, capable of housing up to 220 racks. Carrier Connect's flagship site is a 50-rack data center in a 365,000-square-foot office tower at 200 Burrard Street in Vancouver. The acquisition of Rochester Colo signals a deliberate push into strategic secondary markets, where demand for colocation and edge computing services is rising, positioning the firm to compete more effectively across the continent.
