DayOne Secures Landmark 450MW Power Deal for Major Indonesian Data Center Campus
April 20, 2026
In a significant move for Southeast Asia's digital infrastructure landscape, data center developer DayOne has signed Indonesia's largest-ever Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to secure electricity for a major new campus on the island of Batam. The deal underscores the strategic importance of Batam as an emerging hub for data-intensive industries seeking scalable power and connectivity.
DayOne announced it has entered into a 450MW PPA with the state-owned utility, PLN Batam. The power will be delivered via the grid in phases between 2026 and 2027 to fuel the company's planned data center campus within the Kabil Industrial Tech Park (KITP). While the exact capacity of the planned facility was not disclosed, it is expected to align closely with the substantial power commitment. The two parties also signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding covering connectivity and electrical infrastructure services for the site.
This agreement is central to DayOne's multi-campus strategy in Batam and its vision of an integrated regional platform. Jamie Khoo, CEO of DayOne, stated, "This expansion marks a significant milestone in our strategy to build one of Asia’s leading digital infrastructure platforms. Our continued expansion in Batam reflects the growing importance of the island within our broader regional platform, including our proprietary SIJORI model connecting Singapore, Johor, and Batam."
Kwin Fo, president director of PT PLN Batam, added, "We are proud to support the development of one of the largest data center projects in Indonesia through the provision of reliable and scalable power infrastructure. This collaboration reflects the strong partnership between PLN Batam, BP Batam, and DayOne, and reinforces Batam’s growing role as a regional digital hub."
The deal significantly bolsters DayOne's regional portfolio, which now comprises over 500MW of capacity in service or under construction and more than 500MW held for future development across key markets including Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, and Indonesia. Formerly the international arm of Chinese firm GDS, the now-independent DayOne has been rapidly expanding, with recent groundbreakings in Thailand and Singapore and its first European venture announced in Finland last year.
