DataBank and Goodman Group Forge Joint Venture for Major Los Angeles Data Center
April 7, 2026
In a significant move to address the surging demand for high-capacity computing infrastructure, particularly for artificial intelligence workloads, data center provider DataBank has entered a strategic joint venture with global real estate group Goodman. The partnership aims to develop and operate large-scale data center facilities in capacity-constrained markets across the United States, beginning with a major project in California.
The two companies announced this week the formation of a joint venture to deliver a new 32-megawatt, AI-ready data center in Vernon, Los Angeles County. The facility, named LAX2, will span 140,415 square feet (13,045 square meters) across three stories. The development is strategically located at 3094 E Vernon Avenue, a site Goodman originally acquired in 2023. Goodman broke ground on the structure in March 2025 and topped it out by September of that same year, and will now complete the development.
The first phase of the project, delivering 6MW of critical IT load, is scheduled to launch in December 2026. The remaining 26MW of capacity is planned to come online in stages, with full completion targeted for September 2027. Upon delivery, DataBank will assume operations of the Vernon site, marking its second facility in the Los Angeles market. The company already operates a 2MW facility at the One Wilshire carrier hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
“We’re excited to be partnering with Goodman to bring critically needed AI-ready data center capacity to enterprises in the Los Angeles market,” said Raul Martynek, DataBank’s CEO. He emphasized that combining Goodman’s development expertise with DataBank’s operational platform would accelerate expansion and deliver a world-class facility for hyperscale, AI, and enterprise customers.
Anthony Rozic, CEO of Goodman North America, highlighted the strategic importance of securing power, sites, and capital. “Vernon is a landmark project for Goodman in North America,” Rozic stated, noting the project is a key component of its local data center strategy. He added that partnering with DataBank, which has relationships with over 2,500 enterprise customers, will optimize the delivery of this critical digital infrastructure to the market.
The joint venture signals a powerful alliance between a specialized data center operator and a large-scale developer with a global power bank of approximately 6 gigawatts. For DataBank, which operates more than 65 data centers across 25 U.S. metro markets, the partnership provides a scalable model for rapid expansion in high-demand regions. For Goodman, which has data center projects across continents including Hong Kong, Australia, and Germany, it leverages an operator’s deep customer network and technical prowess. The companies confirmed that the Vernon project is only the first initiative, with plans to develop additional sites in other constrained U.S. markets.
