Conecta Infra to Invest $350 Million in Pan-South American Fiber Network

Conecta Infra to Invest $350 Million in Pan-South American Fiber Network March 25, 2026 In a significant move to address critical digital infrastructure gaps, network provider Conecta Infra has announced a $350 million investment to deploy a new long-haul fiber network across South America. The ambitious project, slated for completion by 2028, aims to lay over 6,000 kilometers of high-capacity cable to directly interconnect major data center hubs in Argentina, Chile, and Brazil. The initiative targets one of the region's primary constraints on digital growth: the lack of resilient, low-latency connectivity between its key data hubs. Conecta Infra, positioning itself as a neutral infrastructure specialist, plans to build metropolitan rings and backbone corridors. This new network is designed to link colocation facilities, hyperscale cloud zones, and interconnection nodes, offering alternative routes to traditional, often congested infrastructure and enhancing overall network resilience. Rafael Pires, founder and CEO of Conecta Infra, contextualized the investment within the broader regional trend: "We are witnessing a new wave of digital infrastructure investment in the region, led by hyperscalers and global data center operators. Conecta was created to provide the connectivity infrastructure required to support this next generation of digital networks." The company, originally founded as RW Telecom in 2019, emphasizes its carrier-neutral model, allowing various operators, cloud providers, and enterprises to access transport capacity independently. Technically, the network will feature fiber housed within a fully owned, underground duct system. The rollout will be phased, aligning with the activation of new segments, and will utilize modular in-line amplifier sites spaced approximately every 80 kilometers to maintain signal integrity over long distances. This substantial infrastructure push is expected to catalyze further data center development and cloud adoption across South America by providing the foundational connectivity that large-scale digital services require.
