Contractual Dispute Triggers Extended Downtime at HostDime's UK Data Center

A contractual dispute between a service provider and its infrastructure vendor has led to a significant, multi-day outage, underscoring the critical dependencies and potential risks within the layered structure of the data center and hosting industry.
HostDime, a global provider of bare-metal, cloud, and colocation services, experienced a severe service disruption at its London data center facility beginning March 18, 2026. The downtime, which impacted downstream customers including VPS hosting company VPSDime, was caused by a dispute between HostDime and its unnamed colocation provider. According to VPSDime, the overarching facility operator abruptly cut off all power and network access to HostDime's server cages.
HostDime initially acknowledged issues on March 18 via social media, stating it was working on a resolution. By March 20, with services still offline, VPSDime disclosed the contractual nature of the problem. HostDime informed its client that it was "progressing forward with migrating services to a new infrastructure vendor within the UK," but cautioned that factors with the previous vendor could "obfuscate an accurate timeline" for restoration.
However, the migration faced immediate hurdles. VPSDime reported on March 21 that the facility operator was denying HostDime access to the building until at least the following Monday, delaying the move. In response, VPSDime independently migrated its services to an alternative UK data center. By March 23, VPSDime had secured and extracted its physical servers, indicating HostDime had eventually regained facility access. Data from Cloudflare Radar showed a steep and sustained drop in HostDime's announced IP address space from March 18 onward.
The incident highlights the operational vulnerabilities for service providers who lease space from larger colocation operators. A termination of services by a facility landlord, executed per contractual terms, can cascade into extended outages for end customers. HostDime's UK entity was also dissolved in February 2026, according to a Companies House filing, adding a layer of corporate complexity to the situation.
While HostDime's website lists its UK address as a Digital Realty facility in London, the colocation giant declined to comment on specific customer relationships. In a statement, Digital Realty said, "services are provided and can be terminated in accordance with contractual terms."
