Digital Edge Secures Record $665M Green Loan for AI-Ready Data Center Campus in Indonesia
March 16, 2026
In a landmark deal for Southeast Asia's digital infrastructure sector, data center developer Digital Edge has obtained Indonesia's largest-ever green loan specifically for data center development. The $665 million financing underscores the critical role of sustainable capital in powering the region's rapid digital and artificial intelligence growth, aligning global investment with local decarbonization goals.
The funds will support the first-phase construction of the company's massive CGK Campus, located in the GIIC Industrial Estate in Bekasi. This initial phase involves three data center buildings scheduled to become operational sequentially in the fourth quarter of 2026, the first quarter of 2027, and the second quarter of 2027. Designed explicitly for AI and data-intensive workloads, the campus has a planned initial capacity of 500 megawatts (MW) and is scalable to a potential 1 gigawatt (GW).
The financing consortium was led by a group of international and local banks, including BNP Paribas, Clifford Capital, Crédit Agricole, DBS, Mizuho, OCBC, PT Bank Central Asia, and SMBC as mandated lead arrangers. Crédit Agricole, DBS, and PT Bank Central Asia also served as green facility coordinators for the transaction, which is structured under Digital Edge's Green Financing Framework.
Jonathan Walbridge, CFO of Digital Edge, stated, "From empowering businesses with high-performance, AI-ready digital infrastructure to advancing innovative solutions that reduce environmental impact, this financing underscores Digital Edge’s leadership in sustainable digital infrastructure. This has been achieved with the strong support of both existing and new lending partners who share our commitment to responsible growth."
The project is central to the company's 2030 carbon neutrality targets. The campus design targets an industry-leading annualized power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.25, incorporates recycled water systems, and plans for renewable energy integration. Digital Edge also aims to secure LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for the facility.
The move significantly expands Digital Edge's footprint in a key growth market. The company, formed by New York-based Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners in 2020, entered Indonesia in 2021 by acquiring a majority stake in local operator Indonet. It now has approximately 25 data centers in operation or under construction across Asia, representing over 1.1 GW of total IT power capacity. This record-breaking green loan not only accelerates Indonesia's position as an emerging data center hub but also sets a new benchmark for financing sustainable digital infrastructure projects in the region.
