Polish Construction Giant Budimex Explores Entry into Data Center Market, in Talks with Tech Leaders

March 11, 2026

Budimex, one of Poland's leading construction firms, has announced its ambition to become a data center owner and operator, signaling a significant strategic diversification into the digital infrastructure sector. This move highlights the growing attractiveness of the data center market in Central and Eastern Europe, where demand for cloud and colocation services is surging, drawing interest from both regional players and international investors.

The company's operations director for infrastructure and general construction, Cezary Łysenko, confirmed in an interview that Budimex is actively scouting for potential data center sites across Poland. Crucially, the firm is engaged in discussions with global technology giants, including Microsoft and Google, to secure partnerships that would ensure the project's operational stability and scalability. "A prerequisite for implementing the project is collaboration with a global cloud infrastructure provider that ensures scale and operational stability," Łysenko stated, emphasizing the critical nature of these alliances for the venture's success.

While specific details regarding the planned facility's size or the current stage of negotiations remain undisclosed, Łysenko affirmed the company's commitment: "We want to have our own data center, and we’re working towards that goal." He noted that the company has verified strong market demand for such investments. The firm, which reported an operating profit of PLN 892 million (approximately $244 million) in 2025, is prepared to offer a comprehensive, turnkey solution and is considering a phased development approach with "relatively high capacity" to adapt to market needs. A key challenge acknowledged is securing the substantial electrical power required for such a facility.

This declared interest marks a notable shift for Budimex. Its prior involvement in the data center sector has been limited and included projects like a PLN 2 billion ($547 million) development near Warsaw and an IT center for Poland's Ministry of Finance. The company's recent public statements, including exploring opportunities in Spain and citing data centers as a diversification avenue, point to a concerted strategy to expand its footprint in this high-growth industry. If realized, Budimex's entry could bolster Poland's position as a key data hub in the region, adding local construction expertise and capital to the evolving infrastructure landscape.
