US Signal Expands Midwest Footprint with Strategic Data Center Acquisition in Chicago Suburb
February 2, 2026
In a strategic move to bolster its edge infrastructure and cloud service delivery, US Signal, a data center and fiber network operator, has acquired a significant facility in Aurora, Illinois, on the western outskirts of the Chicago metropolitan area. The acquisition underscores the ongoing consolidation and expansion within the competitive data center market, particularly in key connectivity hubs like Chicago, as operators seek to meet growing enterprise demand for localized, high-performance computing and connectivity. The company announced this week the purchase of the data center located at 4267 Meridian Parkway in Kane County. The 70,000-square-foot facility, which includes 33,000 square feet of white space with a current critical IT capacity of 1.35 megawatts, was previously owned by Lincoln Rackhouse. US Signal has stated it will immediately begin expansion plans to increase the site's critical capacity to 4MW, with a commercial capacity of up to 6MW, and will deploy its cloud and virtualization services from the location. Daniel Watts, CEO of US Signal, emphasized the facility's role in the company's growth strategy, stating, "This facility aligns perfectly with our long-term growth strategy. We're investing immediately to expand capacity and will deliver OpenCloud at scale, giving customers in this market a local, enterprise-grade private cloud option backed by our national network and proven operational model." The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The Aurora facility has a notable history, having been originally built around 2007 for CNA Insurance. It was later acquired by Bytegrid in 2014 for $30.35 million before Bytegrid itself was purchased by Lincoln Rackhouse in 2019. This acquisition marks another step in US Signal's expansion through strategic purchases, following its acquisitions of OneNeck IT Solutions, a former DXC facility in Detroit, and a data center in Indianapolis. Backed by its owner, Igneo Infrastructure Partners, which acquired US Signal in February 2023, the company now operates approximately 16 data centers and a 9,500-mile fiber network across several states. Michael Ryder, partner and Co-head of North America at Igneo Infrastructure Partners, commented on the disciplined strategy, saying, "US Signal has consistently executed on a disciplined expansion strategy that combines localized edge facilities with national-scale connectivity and cloud. This acquisition and the immediate investment that follows reinforces our confidence in the platform and its ability to deliver long-term value to customers and communities." The move strengthens US Signal's presence in the greater Chicago area, where it already operates the IL01 data center in Oak Brook, and positions the company to better serve the region's robust demand for colocation, cloud, and network services driven by digital transformation and AI workloads.
