D-Wave Secures $30 Million in Quantum Computing Deals with Academic and Corporate Clients

D-Wave Announces Major Quantum Computing Agreements Totaling $30 Million January 28, 2026 Quantum computing leader D-Wave Quantum Inc. has announced a significant commercial and academic push, securing two major agreements with a combined value of $30 million. The deals, unveiled at the company's annual Qubits user conference, underscore the growing enterprise and research adoption of quantum technologies and mark a pivotal expansion of D-Wave's ecosystem. The first agreement, a $20 million deal with Florida Atlantic University (FAU), involves the acquisition and on-premises installation of D-Wave's next-generation Advantage2 quantum computer at the university's Boca Raton campus. Deployment is expected later this year. This partnership extends beyond hardware, paving the way for the creation of a D-Wave Quantum Applications Academy at FAU to advance research, training, and workforce development initiatives. The state of Florida and the city of Boca Raton are supporting the effort with job growth and training incentives aimed at expanding the domestic quantum talent pool. Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave, emphasized the strategic importance of the FAU partnership, stating, "This marks a defining moment for FAU and for D-Wave. Deploying a D-Wave quantum computer at FAU will establish the university as a preeminent center for quantum computing education and research. It signals that the university is not just preparing for the quantum era — it is helping to shape it." The second commitment is a $10 million, two-year Quantum Computing-as-a-Service (QCaaS) agreement with an unnamed Fortune 100 corporation. Under this deal, D-Wave will provide the client with access to both its annealing and gate-model quantum systems, alongside software and professional services. The companies plan to collaborate on developing and deploying several quantum-powered applications for enterprise use. Baratz highlighted this agreement as "one of the most significant endorsements" of the company's technology, adding, "No other company in the world has production-grade quantum technology in the market today." These announcements follow closely on D-Wave's recent $550 million acquisition of Quantum Circuits Inc., a move the company says positions it as the only firm with all three core technologies required for scaled, error-corrected superconducting gate-model quantum computing. Concurrently, D-Wave revealed plans to relocate its corporate headquarters from Palo Alto, California, to the Boca Raton Innovation Campus by the end of 2026, further consolidating its operations and aligning with its new academic partnership. The dual deals with a major research institution and a leading global corporation demonstrate a maturing market for practical quantum computing solutions. They represent a substantial vote of confidence in D-Wave's hybrid approach and its roadmap, which includes plans to bring an initial gate-model system to market within the year. For the broader industry, such commitments signal accelerating investment from both the public and private sectors into building the foundational infrastructure and skilled workforce necessary for the quantum future.
