Digital Edge Announces $4.5 Billion Hyperscale Data Center Campus Near Jakarta

Digital Edge Announces $4.5 Billion Hyperscale Data Center Campus Near Jakarta January 28, 2026 Digital Edge, a leading Asia-Pacific data center developer and operator, has unveiled plans for a massive $4.5 billion data center campus on the outskirts of Jakarta, Indonesia. This landmark investment underscores the intensifying race to build digital infrastructure in Southeast Asia, a region experiencing explosive growth in cloud adoption, digital services, and artificial intelligence workloads. The company announced that the new campus will be situated within the Greenland International Industrial Center (GIIC) in Bekasi, a major industrial estate east of the capital. The project is designed for significant scale, with an initial planned capacity of 500 megawatts (MW) and the potential for future expansion to reach 1 gigawatt (GW). The 2,100-hectare GIIC estate is home to numerous multinational manufacturing firms, providing a strategic location with established power and connectivity infrastructure. Construction will proceed in multiple phases. The first phase involves three buildings, with the inaugural facility scheduled to become operational by the fourth quarter of 2026. The second and third buildings are slated to follow in the first and second quarters of 2027, respectively. While the precise capacity allocation per building was not disclosed, the company emphasized its commitment to sustainable design. The campus will target a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.25 and will incorporate advanced technologies such as direct-to-chip liquid cooling, recycled water systems, and a focus on renewable energy procurement. Founded in 2020 by New York-based private equity firm Stonepeak, Digital Edge has rapidly expanded its footprint across Asia. The company now manages a portfolio of approximately 25 data centers in operation or under construction across six countries, with over 1.1 GW of secured IT power. Its entry into the Indonesian market began in 2021 with the acquisition of a majority stake in local operator Indonet, which operated one facility in Jakarta at the time. This new $4.5 billion campus represents a quantum leap in Digital Edge's commitment to Indonesia and positions the company as a key player in servicing the region's burgeoning demand for hyperscale computing. The development is expected to significantly enhance Indonesia's digital resilience and attract further international cloud and technology investments, solidifying the country's status as a critical emerging hub in the global data center landscape.
