Cboe Completes Major Disaster Recovery Migration to Equinix CH3 in Illinois January 26, 2026 In a significant move to bolster the resilience of US financial markets infrastructure, Cboe Global Markets has completed the migration of its critical disaster recovery systems to a new, state-of-the-art colocation facility. The exchange operator has moved its US Common disaster recovery data center to Equinix's CH3 data center in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, marking a key milestone in a multi-phase infrastructure modernization program. The migration, effective February 7, 2026, involves the hardware and infrastructure supporting a core segment of Cboe's US equities and options trading platforms. This includes the disaster recovery systems for the BYX, BZX, EDGA, and EDGX equities exchanges, as well as the BZX Options, Cboe Options, C2 Options, and EDGX Options exchanges. The effort is part of an eight-phase plan that began in August 2025 with the migration of the EDGA Equities exchange, followed by others in subsequent months. Cboe emphasized that client connections will remain in place at the existing Equinix CH1 facility in downtown Chicago, ensuring continuity for market participants. The relocation to the suburban CH3 campus is focused on the back-end disaster recovery infrastructure. Concurrently, Cboe is undertaking a hardware refresh of its market data dissemination system, aiming to reduce latency and improve performance consistency, with completion targeted for February 2, 2026. This strategic shift underscores a broader trend in the financial sector toward leveraging specialized, high-reliability third-party data centers for mission-critical operations. By consolidating its disaster recovery site with a leading provider like Equinix, Cboe enhances its operational redundancy and geographic separation from its primary data center in Secaucus, New Jersey. The move follows Cboe's earlier divestiture of its former Chicago headquarters in 2024, which is being converted into a data center, reflecting the exchange's ongoing transition from owned to optimized leased infrastructure for greater flexibility and focus on its core trading business.
