GreenSquareDC Launches Major Expansion of Sydney Data Center Campus

January 15, 2026

Australian data center operator GreenSquareDC has commenced a significant expansion of its SYD1 campus in Greater Western Sydney, a move that underscores the intense demand for digital infrastructure in one of the nation's key economic hubs. The project, located at 3 Bookhoolow Avenue in Northwest Sydney, will ultimately deliver approximately 110 megawatts (MW) of total IT capacity, positioning it as a major facility in the region's competitive data center landscape.

The expansion involves a two-phase development strategy. The first phase focuses on the comprehensive upgrade of an existing, dilapidated 4MW facility on the site, which will be modernized to offer 15MW of capacity. The second and larger phase will add a substantial 96MW of new capacity. Construction is currently underway, with the company targeting an operational date in the third quarter of 2026. GreenSquareDC has stated that the development is expected to create hundreds of skilled jobs across engineering, construction, and specialist trades.

The project has been in planning since at least April 2025, when initial filings were made with the New South Wales government. The expansion occurs under the new ownership of Swiss private equity firm Partners Group, which acquired GreenSquareDC in March 2025. Following the acquisition, the company underwent a leadership transition, with former chief development officer Charles Penny taking over as CEO from founder Walt Coulston.

This expansion signals GreenSquareDC's strategic focus on consolidating and scaling its presence in the high-demand Sydney market. It reflects a broader industry trend where operators are aggressively investing to meet the soaring needs of cloud providers, enterprises, and AI-driven workloads. The addition of nearly 110MW of capacity will provide critical infrastructure headroom, supporting digital transformation and economic growth across New South Wales and Australia more broadly.
