NorthC Announces New 4.5MW Data Center Development in Geneva

January 14, 2026

European data center operator NorthC Group is expanding its Swiss footprint with a new facility in Geneva, underscoring the strategic importance of Switzerland's robust financial and scientific sectors for digital infrastructure growth. The move comes as demand for high-performance computing and AI-ready capacity continues to surge across key European economic hubs.

The company announced this week that it will break ground on the new data center in the first quarter of 2026. The facility will be located at The Hive technology park on the outskirts of Geneva and is scheduled for completion by the second quarter of 2028. Upon launch, it will become NorthC's sixth data center in Switzerland.

The modular facility is designed to offer a total IT capacity of 4.5 megawatts (MW) across a floor space of 5,400 square meters (approximately 58,125 square feet). Capacity will be delivered in flexible increments of 1.5MW to meet evolving customer demand. In a statement highlighting the project's strategic rationale, Alexandra Schless, CEO of NorthC Group, said, "Geneva is an important commercial and economic hub in Switzerland... Demand for digital services – and consequently for data center capacity – is growing rapidly. This makes Geneva a logical location for NorthC to build a new data center."

The development is part of NorthC's aggressive expansion across Europe following its acquisition by infrastructure investment firm Antin Infrastructure Partners in late 2025. The operator, formed from a 2019 merger in the Netherlands, has rapidly grown its portfolio through acquisitions and new builds. It currently operates over a dozen sites in the Netherlands, eight in Germany, and four in Switzerland, with several more under development across these markets. Its Swiss expansion began with the 2022 acquisition of Netrics, which brought three facilities with over 7.5MW of capacity.

The new Geneva data center will incorporate sustainable design features, including a waterless cooling system, support for direct-to-chip liquid cooling, and backup generators that utilize hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) instead of diesel. The facility is also planned to make its waste heat available for local district heating networks, aligning with broader industry trends toward energy reuse.

The project signals intensified competition in the Geneva market, where operators like Equinix, nLighten, Stack, and Swisscom are also present. It further solidifies Switzerland's position as a critical data center locale in Europe, driven by its political stability, reliable power grid, and proximity to major international organizations and research institutions like CERN.
