CoreWeave Surpasses 16,000 GPU Deployment Milestone at Texas AI Data Center

CoreWeave Surpasses 16,000 GPU Deployment Milestone at Texas AI Data Center January 13, 2026 In a significant development for the AI infrastructure sector, specialized cloud provider CoreWeave has successfully deployed over 16,000 GPUs at its data center in Denton, Texas. The milestone, achieved under what internal communications described as an "intense spotlight," marks a critical step in fulfilling the company's multi-billion-dollar capacity commitments to leading AI developers amid soaring industry demand. The deployment follows a previously disclosed delay at the facility. During its November 2025 earnings call, CoreWeave noted a project setback due to a third-party developer falling behind schedule, though it assured investors that contract terms had been adjusted with the end-user to prevent revenue loss. According to a report from The Information, the delayed site is the Denton facility being built for OpenAI. Internal Slack messages cited by the publication revealed that CoreWeave executives, including CTO Peter Salanki, COO Sachin Jain, and SVP of engineering Chen Goldberg, acknowledged the challenge, stating, "The last several months tested us in ways few companies ever experience. There were setbacks from partners and factors outside our control.” The scale of the deployment underscores the massive computational requirements of modern AI. While the site had only "a few racks delivered" in November, it accelerated rapidly to surpass 16,000 GPUs by the end of December, with more than 2,000 units brought online in a single day. The facility is widely reported to be leased capacity from Core Scientific, which is undertaking a major $6.1 billion refurbishment of its Denton campus to convert it from cryptocurrency mining to a high-performance AI data center. This expansion is central to CoreWeave's partnership with OpenAI, which has been progressively scaled up. In September 2025, OpenAI increased its commitment, bringing the total value of its capacity contracts with CoreWeave to $22.4 billion. The successful GPU deployment in Texas demonstrates CoreWeave's execution capability in a tight market for AI chips and data center space, positioning it as a key infrastructure enabler in the competitive race to deploy next-generation AI models.
