Treaty Oak Secures Funding, Breaks Ground on 385MW Solar Portfolio for Meta in Louisiana

Treaty Oak Secures Funding, Breaks Ground on 385MW Solar Portfolio for Meta in Louisiana January 9, 2026 In a significant move highlighting the deepening ties between renewable energy developers and major tech consumers, Treaty Oak Clean Energy has successfully closed project financing and commenced construction on two large-scale solar farms in Louisiana. The projects, with a combined capacity of 385 megawatts (MW), are tied to long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Meta Platforms, Inc., underscoring the social media giant's ongoing efforts to secure clean energy for its expanding data center operations. The independent power producer, based in Austin, Texas, announced that the Beekman Solar project in Morehouse Parish will have a capacity of 185MW, while the Hollis Creek Solar project in Sabine Parish is slated for 200MW. Both facilities are expected to achieve commercial operation in the first half of 2027. The energy generated will be fed into the local grid, with Meta purchasing the associated environmental attributes, or renewable energy credits (RECs). Chris Elrod, CEO of Treaty Oak, framed the financial close as a notable achievement given current market conditions. "Closing the financing for these two projects during a challenging economic year for renewable energy projects underscores our strong business model and commitment to bringing energy independence to states like Louisiana," Elrod stated. He credited the company's teams and financing partners for their collaboration in advancing the projects while supporting a U.S.-based supply chain. The deal is directly linked to Meta's substantial infrastructure investment in the state. The company is developing a massive, multi-phase data center campus known as "Hyperion" on a 2,250-acre site between Rayville and Delhi. The campus, with a potential total capacity of 2 gigawatts, represents one of the largest data center investments in the region. While local utility Entergy has announced plans for new natural gas generation to primarily power the campus, the Treaty Oak solar projects will contribute to Meta's broader corporate goal of supporting its operations with 100% renewable energy. For Treaty Oak, a portfolio company of Macquarie Asset Management's Green Investment Group, these projects are part of a broader development pipeline exceeding 17 gigawatts of solar, wind, and battery storage assets across the United States. The company also recently signed a separate 100MW solar PPA with Google in Arkansas, indicating a growing trend of hyperscale operators directly contracting with renewable developers to meet sustainability targets and secure long-term power costs.
