Phoenix Tower International Expands French Footprint with Acquisition of 3,700 Telecom Sites

Phoenix Tower International Expands French Footprint with Acquisition of 3,700 Telecom Sites January 8, 2026 Phoenix Tower International (PTI) has significantly strengthened its position in the European telecommunications infrastructure market by finalizing the acquisition of approximately 3,700 telecom tower sites in France. The deal, a strategic move in the competitive tower consolidation space, sees PTI acquiring the assets from Infracos, a joint venture equally owned by French telecom operators Bouygues Telecom and SFR. The transaction, which was first announced in July 2025, marks a major expansion for the Florida-based infrastructure company. It boosts PTI's total portfolio in France to over 10,000 sites nationwide, solidifying its presence in a key European market. The acquired portfolio consists of sites located across medium-density areas throughout the country. Infracos was originally established by the two operators in 2014 and was put up for sale last year. This acquisition is part of PTI's aggressive growth strategy across Europe and the Americas. The company now owns and operates a global portfolio of roughly 33,000 communication sites. Recent moves include a €971 million ($1.1 billion) purchase of Cellnex's Irish tower unit in 2024 and the acquisition of nearly 2,000 urban sites in France in late 2023. Beyond Europe, PTI has also expanded in the Caribbean and Latin America, including a $407 million deal for 1,300 towers from Liberty Latin America. For the French telecom market, the sale allows Bouygues Telecom and SFR to monetize non-core infrastructure assets, potentially freeing capital for network investments elsewhere, such as fiber and 5G rollouts. For PTI, the deal enhances its scale and operational efficiency in France, positioning it as a leading independent tower operator capable of serving multiple mobile network operators. This trend of operators selling tower assets to specialized infrastructure companies continues to reshape the telecoms landscape globally, driving a separation between service provision and physical asset ownership.
