Vertiv Acquires PurgeRite in $1 Billion Deal to Expand Liquid Cooling Services

Vertiv Bolsters Liquid Cooling Capabilities with Major Acquisition January 5, 2026 Vertiv, a global provider of critical digital infrastructure, has completed its acquisition of fluid management specialist PurgeRite for approximately $1 billion. This strategic move significantly expands Vertiv's service portfolio for liquid cooling systems, which are becoming essential for modern data centers supporting artificial intelligence and high-performance computing workloads. The transaction, first announced earlier this year, integrates PurgeRite's mechanical flushing, purging, and filtration expertise into Vertiv's thermal management business. Based in Houston, Texas, PurgeRite has built a strong reputation serving hyperscale cloud providers and major colocation firms with complex cooling requirements across large-scale campuses. Vertiv, headquartered in Westerville, Ohio, operates in over 130 countries, supplying power, cooling, and IT infrastructure. The deal is a direct response to the rapid industry shift toward liquid cooling. As chip power densities rise, traditional air cooling faces limitations, pushing operators to adopt direct-to-chip and immersion cooling at scale. In these high-density environments, coolant quality and system cleanliness are critical for thermal performance, reliability, and equipment longevity. Vertiv stated that the integration aims to provide customers with improved heat transfer, higher equipment efficiency, and reduced downtime risk through more disciplined commissioning and maintenance procedures. “We are excited to officially welcome PurgeRite to Vertiv, expanding to deepen our fluid management services capabilities,” said Giordano Albertazzi, CEO of Vertiv. The company emphasized that PurgeRite's engineering teams and proprietary technologies will complement its existing liquid cooling portfolio, which spans solutions from the facility level down to the rack. This combination enables Vertiv to offer an end-to-end thermal management approach, covering design, commissioning, and ongoing service for global operators deploying liquid cooling at scale. The acquisition reflects a broader trend of consolidation as infrastructure providers seek specialized skills in adjacent areas. Fluid management sits at the intersection of mechanical engineering and chemistry, a niche expertise that is difficult for operators to develop in-house. By bringing PurgeRite's services in-house, Vertiv strengthens its position to support the construction and operation of next-generation “AI factories” and high-density computing environments worldwide.
