Compute Nordic Secures Green Light for 212 MW AI Data Center Campus in Finland

Compute Nordic Secures Green Light for 212 MW AI Data Center Campus in Finland January 5, 2026 The race to build infrastructure capable of powering the next wave of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing has reached the Nordic region, with Compute Nordic Ltd. achieving a critical milestone for a major new project in Finland. The Norway-based developer has received full construction permits and finalized power agreements for the initial phase of its AI Training and Inference Campus in Mikkeli, setting the stage for one of the region's most advanced, high-density data center developments. The first phase of the Mikkeli campus is designed to deliver 212 megawatts of IT capacity, a substantial investment aimed squarely at the intensive demands of AI model training, inference, and large-scale cloud platforms. In a statement, Compute Nordic emphasized that the facility was "designed from the outset to support extreme compute density and flexibility," leveraging the Nordic advantages of a cold climate, stable power grids, and strong sustainability credentials to deliver energy-efficient infrastructure. The technical specifications underscore its focus on cutting-edge workloads. The architecture will incorporate dual-loop cooling systems engineered to support both direct liquid cooling and rear door heat exchangers, ensuring compatibility with high-density GPU clusters. Each data hall is planned to support rack densities exceeding 240 kW, with a targeted Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) below 1.15, a key metric for operational efficiency. The halls are also configurable to balance resilience, density, and cost according to specific client needs. With all regulatory approvals and power contracts now in place, the project enters its execution phase. The development signals a significant expansion of AI-dedicated capacity in Europe, offering hyperscalers and AI firms access to scalable, sustainable computing resources in a strategically located region known for its renewable energy.
