Liberty Energy and Vantage Data Centers Forge 1 GW Power Partnership for AI-Driven Growth
January 5, 2026
As the artificial intelligence boom places unprecedented strain on power grids, securing reliable and scalable electricity has become the paramount challenge for data center operators. In a strategic move to address this critical bottleneck, Liberty Energy and Vantage Data Centers announced a major partnership on January 5 to develop dedicated power generation solutions for Vantage’s expanding North American data center portfolio.
The agreement centers on Liberty Power Innovations (LPI), a subsidiary of Denver-based Liberty Energy, which will own and operate new utility-scale, high-efficiency power generation facilities—presumably natural gas-fired units. The collaboration targets the delivery of up to 1 gigawatt (GW) of power capacity for Vantage’s customers within the next five years. An initial reservation of 400 megawatts of generation capacity is slated for 2027, with a clear pathway for future expansion beyond the 1 GW mark.
Vantage Data Centers, which operates 41 campuses across five continents, is positioning this alliance as a cornerstone for supporting hyperscale and AI infrastructure growth. “As demand for digital infrastructure accelerates, access to dependable, high efficiency, scalable power is critical for hyperscale growth,” said Dana Adams, President of North America at Vantage Data Centers. He emphasized that partnering with LPI strengthens Vantage’s ability to deliver capacity in power-constrained markets while controlling costs.
The partnership is designed to accelerate campus development by deploying LPI’s integrated power solutions, including its Forte generation and Tempo load management systems, directly within data center campuses. This co-located approach, connected via a dedicated distribution network, is intended to enable high-density, AI-optimized operations and provide energy resilience, with the optionality for future grid interconnection.
Ron Gusek, CEO of Liberty, described the deal as a “landmark collaboration.” He stated, “This alliance represents a significant step forward in aligning energy and digital infrastructure to meet growing demand for AI services while setting a new standard for unprecedented scale and reliability.” The companies also noted that their solutions aim to protect local communities from higher power costs and supply strain, while offering support to the regional grid when needed.
This move follows Vantage’s previous agreement with VoltaGrid for over 1 GW of power capacity, underscoring the data center industry’s aggressive push to secure dedicated power generation assets. For Liberty Energy, a major provider of services to oil, gas, and geothermal producers, the partnership marks a significant expansion into the high-growth digital infrastructure energy market.
