Vantage Data Centers Partners with Liberty Energy for Up to 1GW of Onsite Power in North America

January 5, 2026

In a significant move to address the critical power constraints facing the data center industry, Vantage Data Centers has entered a strategic partnership with Liberty Energy to deploy large-scale onsite power generation for its North American campuses. The deal underscores the growing necessity for hyperscale operators to secure reliable and scalable energy sources independently of strained public grids, especially to fuel the rapid expansion of AI and cloud computing workloads.

The agreement, announced on Tuesday, will see Liberty Power Innovations (LPI), a subsidiary of the oil and gas services firm, develop, own, and operate dedicated power infrastructure at Vantage facilities. The multi-year partnership targets the delivery of up to 1 gigawatt (GW) of power capacity, with an initial 400 megawatts (MW) already scheduled for deployment by 2027. The collaboration is designed to accelerate data center development in power-constrained markets by integrating onsite generation and advanced load management, thereby reducing pressure on local electricity networks.

Vantage's President for North America, Dana Adams, emphasized the strategic importance of the deal, stating, "As demand for digital infrastructure accelerates, access to dependable, high-efficiency, scalable power is critical for hyperscale growth." Adams noted that partnering with LPI strengthens Vantage's ability to deliver capacity where and when customers need it while managing costs in challenging power markets.

LPI will provide co-located generation connected through dedicated distribution systems within Vantage campuses, with future options to interconnect with the main grid. While the specific technology for the onsite systems was not disclosed, the configuration is widely expected to utilize natural gas. Liberty Energy's CEO, Ron Gusek, highlighted the scale of the undertaking, saying, "We are excited to join Vantage in this landmark collaboration to develop and deliver 1GW or more of power for their data center campuses."

The partnership significantly bolsters Vantage's capability to meet surging demand, particularly for AI-driven infrastructure. The developer currently operates and is building 17 data centers across North America. This North American power initiative follows Vantage's recent global expansion efforts, including a $1.6 billion investment into its Asia-Pacific platform finalized in November 2025. For Liberty Energy, founded by current U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, this deal marks a continued push into the data center sector, following a similar memorandum of understanding with DC Grid in early 2025.
