Sonda's Kudos Data Center in Chile Secures Prestigious Tier IV Gold Operational Certification
December 23, 2025
In a significant development for Chile's digital infrastructure landscape, multinational IT provider Sonda has successfully completed a major operational upgrade at its flagship Kudos data center. The facility, located in Quilicura within the greater Santiago metropolitan area, has been awarded the Tier IV Gold Certification in Operational Sustainability (TCOS) by the Uptime Institute for its first phase of operations. This certification represents the highest global benchmark for the management and operation of a data center that already holds a Tier IV design certification, signifying exceptional resilience and efficiency.
The achievement underscores the growing emphasis on operational excellence and environmental responsibility within the high-stakes data center industry. For enterprises reliant on cloud services and digital infrastructure, certifications of this caliber provide critical assurance of near-continuous uptime and robust risk mitigation. According to the Uptime Institute, the TCOS Gold certification confirms that the Kudos facility operates with maximum efficiency and resilience, rendering it largely immune to operational risks. It further verifies that operations incorporate energy-saving measures to reduce environmental impact without compromising the stringent reliability required of a Tier IV site.
Launched in November 2020, the Kudos data center specializes in cloud services, digital infrastructure, and connectivity. Strategically positioned as a digital hub, it is interconnected with other Sonda data centers in the region and linked to local submarine cable systems. In Chile, Sonda operates another facility, DCQ1, in Quilicura, which holds a Tier III classification. The company also maintains two operational data centers in Brazil, including a Tier III site in Belo Horizonte.
This certification is likely to strengthen Sonda's competitive position in Latin America's rapidly expanding data center market. It demonstrates a commitment to aligning cutting-edge physical infrastructure with world-class operational practices, a combination increasingly demanded by multinational corporations and hyperscalers seeking sustainable and reliable digital capacity in the region. The move sets a high operational standard for other facilities in Chile and beyond, highlighting the convergence of top-tier reliability with sustainable operational practices as a key industry trend.
