GlobalAI data-center company buys Carestream property

GlobalAI Acquires Major Colorado Site for AI Data Center Development

December 23, 2025

In a significant move within the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure sector, data center developer GlobalAI has secured a strategic property in Colorado for a major new facility. The acquisition underscores the intense competition for sites with robust power and land resources to support the next generation of energy-intensive computing.

GlobalAI, a New York-based firm specializing in high-performance AI environments, has purchased the former Carestream Health facility in Weld County for $15.6 million. The transaction, finalized this week, involves a 438-acre site featuring two large buildings. The seller was an LLC controlled by prominent Windsor developer Martin Lind. GlobalAI plans to develop an AI-powered data center on the property, with partnerships involving technology leader Nvidia and Saudi AI company HUMAIN.

The scale of the property is a key asset. Its existing power infrastructure, originally built to support a Kodak-era manufacturing plant spanning millions of square feet, is seen as a critical advantage for a modern data center. Martin Lind, the former owner, highlighted this in discussions with local media, noting, "the infrastructure is firmly in place out there." While acknowledging the voracious power demands of AI facilities, Lind emphasized their economic upside, stating they "pay enormous property taxes and pay high salaries."

The development arrives amid national debates over the energy and water consumption of large data centers. However, the project is poised to bring substantial investment to Northern Colorado. Lind suggested that "a substantial investment in this region from GlobalAI" is contingent on state-level support, noting the need to navigate the political landscape. The site's future is also tied to municipal planning. It sits in an unincorporated area, with both the city of Greeley and the town of Windsor showing interest in annexing it. Greeley's recent advancement of a new "Three Mile Plan" could facilitate this process, with the ultimate decision resting with GlobalAI.

According to its corporate materials, GlobalAI designs sovereign-ready, scalable GPU infrastructure using advanced liquid-cooling systems, optimized for AI training and inference. The company recently formalized a strategic partnership with HUMAIN, a Saudi AI company backed by the kingdom's Public Investment Fund, aimed at developing large-scale AI data center capacity in the United States. Sami Issa, co-founder and CEO of GlobalAI, described such collaborations as building "the foundation for nations to lead, innovate, and define their AI future."

Local economic development officials confirm strong regional interest in data center projects. Rich Werner, President and CEO of Upstate Colorado Economic Development, noted, "Every site has its own set of unique capabilities and challenges, and it’s about finding the right fit for the right project." The Carestream site, which ceased operations last year resulting in 210 layoffs, now represents a pivotal opportunity for technological reinvestment in Weld County.
