Red Post Energy to Develop Gas Power for Major Virginia Data Center Hub December 22, 2025 Securing reliable, high-capacity power has become a critical bottleneck for data center expansion, particularly in high-demand regions. This challenge is driving partnerships between energy providers and developers to create bespoke power solutions for new technology hubs. Independent power producer Red Post Energy Group has signed a letter of intent with data center developer Wise Innovation Hub Venture (Oasis) to develop a natural gas power supply solution for a planned technology campus in Wise County, Virginia. The non-binding agreement, announced this week, initiates the early-stage planning for the "Maverick Project," a phased power generation initiative intended to support multiple data center operators near the Lonesome Pine Regional Airport. The project is slated for a total capacity of up to 600 megawatts (MW), with an initial phase targeting approximately 100MW. Under the LOI, the companies will assess various power supply options, including on-site natural gas-fired generation, grid interconnection studies, and preliminary engineering. They have also indicated plans to engage with midstream gas company Enbridge regarding potential pipeline infrastructure development to serve the site. Lance Medlin, CEO of Red Post Energy, emphasized the strategic importance of the deal, stating, "Reliable, dispatchable power is the gating factor for data center development. This LOI allows us to work closely with Oasis to design a power solution that meets the scale, reliability, and growth requirements of hyperscale and enterprise data users, while aligning with the Commonwealth of Virginia's economic development priorities." For Oasis, the collaboration is a key step in its effort to attract technology investment to Southwest Virginia. Ross Litkenhous, a partner at Wise Innovation Hub Venture, said, "This collaboration with Red Post Energy represents a critical step toward delivering the reliable, scalable power infrastructure that data center operators require while driving long-term economic development in Southwest Virginia." The company is currently in discussions with local and state officials to advance the project, which is expected to be built in phases as additional tenants are secured. This venture marks Red Post Energy's second major U.S. development, following a previously announced plan for a 400MW natural gas-fired plant in Laredo, Texas. The move underscores a growing trend where data center developers are proactively partnering with energy firms to secure dedicated power generation, mitigating grid constraints and supporting regional economic growth agendas.
