Hut 8 selects Entergy, Southeast Louisiana for $10 billion artificial intelligence data center

Hut 8 Announces $10 Billion AI Data Center Campus in Louisiana, Powered by Entergy

December 17, 2025

In a significant move that underscores the escalating demand for high-power computing infrastructure to fuel artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure firm Hut 8 has selected Southeast Louisiana as the site for a massive new AI data center campus. The project, named River Bend, represents a major bet on the region's energy infrastructure and economic incentives to support next-generation technological applications.

Hut 8 announced it will develop the River Bend artificial intelligence data center campus in West Feliciana Parish, with Phase I representing an investment of up to $10 billion. The company has tapped Entergy Louisiana to provide an initial 330 megawatts of utility capacity to support the campus. The site has the potential to eventually scale to 1,000 MW, positioning Louisiana as a long-term hub for high-performance computing. Construction is already underway, with operations expected to commence by the second quarter of 2027.

The scale of the investment is expected to generate substantial economic activity. At the peak of Phase I construction, approximately 1,000 workers will be on-site. Once operational, this initial phase is projected to create at least 75 direct new jobs, with Louisiana Economic Development estimating an additional 193 indirect jobs, bringing the total to 268 new opportunities in the Capital Region. Employment is expected to expand significantly with future development phases. A key anchor tenant for the site will be Fluidstack, a leading AI cloud platform, whose lease is supported by a financial backstop from Google.

State and corporate leaders hailed the project as a transformative development. “Louisiana continues to win,” said Governor Jeff Landry. “Hut 8’s investment in River Bend builds on our track record of attracting global-scale projects in the industries of the future.” The state has leveraged incentive programs, including a sales and use tax rebate on data center equipment and the Quality Jobs program, to secure the investment.

“River Bend is a testament to the power of partnership,” said Hut 8 CEO Asher Genoot. “This project was made possible by the leadership of state and local leaders, the commitment of Entergy, and the determination of the people of Louisiana.” Phillip May, President and CEO of Entergy Louisiana, highlighted the state's competitive edge, stating, “Our ability to deliver reliable, scalable power while maintaining some of the lowest electricity rates in the country gives companies like Hut 8 the confidence to invest here.”

The River Bend campus significantly accelerates Louisiana's emergence as a major destination for capital-intensive technology and industrial projects. It follows other recent landmark investments, including Meta’s $10 billion AI data center in Northeast Louisiana and a nearly $6 billion manufacturing facility from Hyundai Steel Company. For the data center industry, the project exemplifies the strategic shift towards locations with robust, scalable power grids and favorable economic conditions capable of supporting the immense energy demands of AI workloads.
