Schneider Electric's Motivair Unit Unveils New Cooling Distribution Units for High-Density AI Workloads December 15, 2025 Schneider Electric's specialized cooling subsidiary, Motivair, has launched a new range of Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs), marking a significant expansion of its liquid cooling portfolio to meet the surging demands of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure. The launch of the MCDU-45 and MCDU-55 models represents Motivair's first purpose-built CDUs designed for optimized installation in utility corridors, offering data center operators enhanced flexibility and integration. These units, now available globally with production scaling in early 2026, are the first new products introduced since Schneider Electric acquired a 75 percent stake in Motivair for a reported $850 million in February 2025. The larger MCDU-55 model delivers a substantial cooling capacity of 2.7 megawatts. Industry executives emphasized the strategic importance of the launch. "When it comes to data center liquid cooling, flexibility is the key with customers demanding a more diverse and larger portfolio of end-to-end solutions," said Andrew Bradner, Senior Vice President of Cooling Business at Schneider Electric. He noted that the new CDUs allow customers to tailor deployment strategies to a wider range of accelerated computing applications. Rich Whitmore, CEO of Motivair, stated, "Together with Schneider Electric, our goal is to deliver next-generation cooling solutions that adapt to any HPC, AI, or advanced data center deployment to deliver seamless scalability, performance, and reliability when it matters most." The Buffalo, New York-based company specializes in high-pressure liquid cooling systems that bring coolant close to server chips for maximum efficiency. This product expansion is a direct response to the industry's rapid shift towards liquid cooling, driven by the unprecedented power densities of AI server racks. It strengthens Schneider Electric's position in providing comprehensive thermal management solutions critical for the next generation of data centers, where traditional air cooling is increasingly inadequate.
