Amazon Announces $35 Billion Investment in India by 2030, Doubling Down on AI and Digital Infrastructure

December 10, 2025

In a major escalation of the global tech race for dominance in one of the world's fastest-growing digital economies, Amazon has unveiled plans to invest an additional $35 billion in India by the end of the decade. This massive commitment underscores the strategic importance of the Indian market for cloud and e-commerce giants, coming just one day after Microsoft announced a $17.5 billion AI infrastructure push in the country.

The new investment pledge builds upon the more than $40 billion Amazon has already deployed in India over the past 15 years. According to the company, the fresh capital will be directed towards accelerating AI-driven digitization, boosting export capabilities for Indian businesses, and creating millions of jobs. While Amazon did not specify the exact allocation for data center infrastructure, a significant portion is expected to fund the expansion of its cloud arm, Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President for Emerging Markets at Amazon, framed the investment as a continuation of the company's long-term partnership with India. “We are humbled to have been a part of India’s digital transformation journey over the past 15 years,” Agarwal stated. “We have invested at scale in growing the physical and digital infrastructure for small businesses in India, creating millions of jobs, and taking Made-in-India global.”

This announcement appears to significantly scale up Amazon's previously stated cloud infrastructure plans for the region. Earlier in 2025, AWS committed $8.3 billion to develop its cloud region in Mumbai, Maharashtra—a single region that had already seen $3.7 billion in investment between its 2016 launch and 2022. That Mumbai commitment was part of a wider $12.7 billion AWS investment plan for India announced in May 2023, with a further $6.95 billion reportedly earmarked for its Hyderabad region launched in 2022.

The intensified focus on India reflects a broader hyperscale investment trend. In October 2025, Google confirmed a $15 billion data center project in Andhra Pradesh. Amazon's latest $35 billion pledge, therefore, positions it at the forefront of this capital influx, aiming to lock in market share as Indian enterprises and government agencies undergo rapid digital and AI adoption. The move is set to further catalyze competition, spur local supply chain development, and solidify India's status as a critical global hub for digital infrastructure investment.
