Argyll Infrastructure Secures Major Funding for AI Data Center Expansion in Scotland

Argyll Infrastructure Secures Major Funding for AI Data Center Expansion in Scotland December 9, 2025 Argyll Infrastructure Holdings (AIH) has secured a critical funding partnership to advance its ambitious plans to develop large-scale, AI-optimized data center campuses in Scotland, positioning the region as a potential hub for next-generation computing in Europe. The move comes as global demand for AI infrastructure surges, putting pressure on existing data center markets and prompting developers to seek new locations with available power, land, and strategic advantages. The company announced it has completed an initial fundraising round of £15 million (approximately $20 million), with negotiations ongoing for a further £100 million ($133 million) expected to conclude within the next three to six months. Furthermore, AIH is working with European Guarantee Services (EGS) and Luxembourg fund manager Ocorian AIFM on a broader capital raise targeting €2 billion ($2.3 billion) to fund the development of two primary campuses. The flagship project is the Killellan AI Growth Zone, a 184-acre digital campus on the Cowal Peninsula in Dunoon. The first phase of this "green" campus, powered by renewable energy, is planned to offer between 100MW and 600MW of capacity, with the potential to scale to 2GW at full build-out. A second site is planned for Perth, located roughly 85 miles from Dunoon, to provide redundancy and optimal connectivity. The Dunoon campus will exclusively host an AI cloud platform built on SambaNova Systems' SN40L technology. Peter Griffiths, Managing Director of AIH, stated, "By raising the initial capital and confirming the order for the purchase of the initial racks, AIH has established itself as the vanguard of AI adoption in Scotland." He emphasized the strategic partnership, noting, "The three-year exclusivity arrangement ensures that AIH will be the sole provider of SambaNova's cutting-edge technology throughout the United Kingdom." The development signals a significant shift for Scotland's digital infrastructure landscape. Currently, the country hosts a relatively small data center market, with around 28 facilities compared to over 470 in England. However, a wave of new proposals, including a separate 500MW project in North Lanarkshire, suggests planned hyperscale developments could demand an additional 2-3GW of power in the coming years. AIH's long-term investment ambition for the Dunoon campus alone totals £15 billion ($20 billion), underscoring the scale of the opportunity. This influx of capital and high-tech focus could catalyze Scotland's emergence as a competitive destination for AI and high-performance computing workloads in Europe. Source: datacenterdynamics
