ZincFive Secures $30 Million in Series F Funding to Scale AI Data Center Power Solutions

As the artificial intelligence boom places unprecedented demands on data center power infrastructure, the race is on to develop more reliable, efficient, and safer backup energy solutions. This urgency has fueled significant investment in next-generation battery technologies, positioning companies at the forefront of this shift for rapid growth.

ZincFive, a developer of nickel-zinc (NiZn) battery systems for critical power applications, announced today the successful closure of a $30 million Series F funding round. This latest capital infusion brings the company's total funding since its 2016 founding to $254 million. The funds are earmarked for expanding manufacturing capacity and scaling commercial operations to meet surging demand from AI data center operators.

CEO Tod Higinbotham framed the investment as a validation of the company's trajectory. "This funding milestone underscores both our commercial maturity and the massive market opportunity ahead," Higinbotham stated. "We’ve moved beyond proving our technology – we’re scaling to meet contracted demand from the world’s leading hyperscalers and data center operators." He added that the capital will accelerate expansion plans and strengthen the company's ability to fulfill significant customer commitments for large-scale deployments.

The company's technology is gaining traction specifically for AI workloads. Last month, ZincFive launched its BC 2 AI battery cabinet, which it describes as the industry's first AI-optimized NiZn system designed for dual-mode operation in uninterruptible power supply (UPS) applications, supporting both dynamic AI workloads and outage protection. The system features 90Ah batteries engineered for high-intensity discharge cycles. ZincFive, a proponent of nickel-zinc chemistry for over a decade, recently reported it has surpassed 1 gigawatt (GW) worth of deployed battery capacity, claiming advantages such as a small footprint, minimal maintenance, high reliability, and no risk of thermal runaway.

This commercial footprint is already evident within the sector. Data center operator Corscale has utilized ZincFive's batteries at its Northern Virginia campus since 2022, and Wyoming Hyperscale has also deployed the technology. Furthermore, major power equipment vendors ABB and Vertiv have integrated ZincFive's NiZn batteries into their own UPS offerings, signaling growing industry acceptance.

The funding round highlights a strategic bet on nickel-zinc chemistry as a viable alternative to traditional lithium-ion and lead-acid batteries in the high-stakes data center environment. As AI clusters push power densities per rack toward 1 megawatt and beyond, the need for dense, safe, and durable backup power solutions becomes increasingly critical. ZincFive's latest financial boost positions it to capitalize on this trend, potentially influencing the standard architecture for power resilience in next-generation AI facilities.
